Huddersfield Town announce that they have sacked head coach Mark Fotheringham after just 21 matches in charge.

Huddersfield Town have announced that they have parted company with head coach Mark Fotheringham.

On the back of a poor start to the season and with the club sitting bottom of the Championship, the Terriers made the decision to replace Danny Schofield with the 39-year-old.

However, despite Fotheringham moving Huddersfield far closer to safety, the board have made the decision to sack the Scot after just 21 matches.

The decision comes less than 24 hours after the Yorkshire outfit twice let slip a lead against relegation rivals Blackpool, who had 10 men for the second half, to draw 2-2 at Bloomfield Road.

In a brief club statement, Huddersfield revealed that assistant Kenny Miller had also departed the John Smith's Stadium.

Narcis Pelach has been placed in interim charge for another crucial fixture in the Championship on Saturday, this one against bottom-placed Wigan Athletic.

Fotheringham leaves Huddersfield having collected 21 points from his 20 games in charge, an improvement on the seven points which had come from nine fixtures before his appointment.

Over Christmas, Huddersfield posted back-to-back wins over Preston North End and Rotherham United, while their two defeats in the following five fixtures have been 2-1 to Luton Town and 2-0 at Coventry City.

Nevertheless, despite back-to-back draws being recorded against Queens Park Rangers and Blackpool and the club sitting one point from safety in the table, Huddersfield have opted to search for a new head coach.
