Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott is thought to be on the verge of a move to Greek side AEK Athens.

Aston Villa defender Joleon Lescott is on the verge of moving to AEK Athens, according to reports in Greece.

The 34-year-old has fallen out of favour at Villa Park following their unceremonious drop into the Championship at the end of last term and has been told that he can move on by new manager Roberto Di Matteo.

Greek website Sport 24 claims that Lescott has "agreed terms" with the Superleague runners-up and will travel to the capital in the next few days to undergo a medical and sign paperwork.

Earlier this month Lescott, who has never played for a club outside England before, had been linked with a switch to Scottish Premiership side Rangers but rejected the move "for family reasons".

Lescott moved to Villa Park from Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion ahead of their final Premier League campaign in a £1.2m deal.
