Arsenal team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Southampton

Sports Mole rounds up all of Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Friday's Premier League clash with Southampton.

Arsenal will endeavour to right the wrongs of the past two gameweeks when they host basement side Southampton in Friday's Premier League clash at the Emirates Stadium.

One week after letting a two-goal lead slip against Liverpool, Mikel Arteta's men failed to hang on to an identical advantage against West Ham United, drawing 2-2 in Sunday's London derby.

With the Manchester City juggernaut in full flow, Arsenal's lead at the top has been cut down to just four points over the champions, who have a game in hand and host Arteta's team at the Etihad Stadium on April 26.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Arsenal's latest injury and suspension news ahead of their clash with the Saints, who fell to a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace last time out.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: April 21 (vs. Southampton)

Oleksandr Zinchenko picked up a minor groin problem in the draw with Liverpool on April 9 and subsequently missed the West Ham clash as a precaution, but he is expected to make his return on Friday.

Mohamed Elneny

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Mohamed Elneny was ruled out for the rest of the season in January after undergoing surgery on a knee injury, but he was nevertheless handed a new contract until the summer of 2024 during the early stages of his recovery.

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

The luckless Takehiro Tomiyasu suffered a campaign-ending knee injury in March's Europa League last-16 second leg loss to Sporting Lisbon, and the right-back is looking ahead to a possible return in pre-season.

William Saliba

Status: Out
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: Unknown

To the dismay of Arsenal fans, Arteta admitted last week that William Saliba could still take "a few weeks" to recover from a back problem, ruling him out of Friday's game and most likely the trip to Man City on April 26.
