Mohamed Salah's record vs. Arsenal

Sports Mole takes a closer look at Mohamed Salah's record against Arsenal ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash at Anfield.

Liverpool will endeavour to end a four-game winless run across all competitions when they welcome Arsenal to Anfield for Sunday's Premier League contest.

Jurgen Klopp's men ended a miserable three-game losing streak with a goalless draw away to Chelsea on Tuesday night, keeping them out of the European spots in eighth place in the table.

The Reds sit seven places and 29 points worse off than the title-chasing Gunners ahead of the weekend's battle, and Klopp oversaw a 3-2 loss to Mikel Arteta's men at the Emirates Stadium back in October.

However, Arsenal have gone almost 11 years without a Premier League win at Anfield, and Mohamed Salah has unsurprisingly been at the heart and centre of the Reds' Merseyside success streak.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at the Egyptian's record against the Gunners ahead of Sunday's crunch showdown.

Since first tackling Arsenal while on the books at Chelsea, Salah has taken on the Gunners 14 times in all tournaments, winning eight, losing four and drawing two against the North London club in that time.

Speaking of eights and fours, Salah has coincidentally netted eight times and provided four assists against Arsenal, starting with a goal off the bench for Chelsea during a 6-0 thrashing in March 2014.

In what was Arsene Wenger's doomed 1,000th game as a manager, Salah scored just one of the two goals that he would net for Chelsea before returning to haunt the Gunners in Merseyside red during the 2017-18 season.

The ex-Roma man contributed a goal and assist to a 4-0 drubbing at Anfield in August 2017 before also netting in a 3-3 Emirates draw later that year, although he failed to contribute in a 1-1 stalemate in North London a few months later.

However, Salah reverted to type with a goal and assist at Anfield in December 2018 as Liverpool won 5-1, before netting his first brace against Arsenal during a 3-1 victory in August 2019.

Direct contributions have since been few and far between for Salah against Arsenal, though, as the 30-year-old has just two goals from his last eight meetings with the Premier League leaders.

Those strikes came in back-to-back Premier League clashes in April 2021 and November 2021, and he has since drawn a blank in two successive meetings with Arteta's side.

Despite his recent lull against the Gunners, Salah enters the weekend having scored in each of Liverpool's last three Premier League home matches, including a double in March's historic 7-0 win over Manchester United.

Arsenal may hold an unassailable lead at the top of the pile, but clean sheets have not always been easy to come by for Arteta's side, who must have their wits about them and then some to prevent Salah adding to his ever-growing tally on Sunday.
