Stoke City reportedly make an offer of £12m to try to sign Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson.

Stoke City have reportedly joined the race to sign Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson.

Since Boro were relegated to the Championship, a number of clubs have been linked with the centre-back, who has recently spent time in the England squad.

The North-East outfit are keen to keep hold of their most prized asset but according to The Times, the Potters have made an attempt to sign the 24-year-old.

It has been claimed that a bid of £12m has been made for Gibson's signature after he impressed during a campaign where he was an ever-present in the Middlesbrough starting lineup.

However, despite Stoke's efforts, they are likely to see their initial offer rebuffed with Gibson still having four years remaining on his existing deal.

Leicester City have also been credited with an interest, and Gibson could prove to be an alternative if they decline to spend £20m on West Bromwich Albion's Jonny Evans.
