Ajax manager Erik ten Hag emerges as a candidate to replace Jose Mourinho in the Tottenham Hotspur dugout, according to a report.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has emerged as a contender for the managerial hotseat at Tottenham Hotspur, according to a report.

Spurs sacked Jose Mourinho last Monday and placed 29-year-old former midfielder Ryan Mason in interim charge, but he could not end Tottenham's trophy drought in his second match as Manchester City claimed the EFL Cup crown on Sunday.

Mason is not expected to be in the hotseat for the start of the 2021-22 campaign, though, and Daniel Levy has supposedly identified a number of candidates for the vacant job.

Ajax's Ten Hag is among those being considered, according to The Telegraph, as the 51-year-old's deal with the Amsterdam giants will expire in 2022.

Ten Hag led Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League in the 2018-19 season, where they suffered heartbreak against Spurs in the final four, and he has won 119 of his 163 games in charge of the Dutch giants since taking over in 2017.

Leicester City's Brendan Rodgers and RB Leipzig's Julian Nagelsmann have also been linked with the Tottenham job, but the latter is supposedly set to replace Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich.
