Tensions between Portsmouth and Southampton have always run high, but they intensified early in the 2004-05 Premier League season when the Saints poached manager Harry Redknapp from their South-Coast rivals.
The manager returned to Fratton Park on April 24, 2005 with both clubs' places in the top flight in jeopardy.
It did not take the home side long to open the scoring as Saints goalkeeper Antti Niemi brought down Lomano LuaLua just four minutes into the tie, leaving Yakubu to fire the ball in from the penalty spot for Alain Perrin's side.

It was all Portsmouth inside the opening quarter of an hour as Dejan Stefanovic fired just wide, while LuaLua was denied by Niemi with a 22-yard strike.
Pompey did add a second shortly after though as Patrik Berger crossed the ball in from the right, setting up Arjan De Zeeuw to head in at the far post and leave the visitors looking stunned.
It looked as though Southampton would be able to make a game of it despite losing top scorer Peter Crouch to an injury in the warm-up, as Henri Camara cut the deficit in half in the 20th minute, curling the ball in with a powerful finish.
LuaLua soon ended any hopes of a comeback from the Saints, though, charging forward to beat an onrushing Niemi and coolly slide the ball into an empty net, before rifling it in from 22 yards out just a couple of minutes later, putting the hosts 4-1 up inside the first half an hour.
There were few chances after the break as Southampton's heads dropped, although Diomansy Kamara could have scored a fifth for Portsmouth late on, but he could not keep his shot on target.
The result all but secured Portsmouth's place in the top flight for another season, while leaving Southampton rooted to the foot of the table.

Southampton were unable to avoid the drop, finishing two points from safety to head down to the Championship alongside Norwich City and Crystal Palace, while Portsmouth finished the campaign in 16th.
This was the last Premier League meeting between the two sides, with their fortunes heading in opposite directions since this match. Southampton are now back in the top flight after briefly dropping down to League One, but Portsmouth sit near the foot of the Football League in League Two.
There have been several meetings between the two clubs since this fixture, though, with Portsmouth winning by the same scoreline in an FA Cup match in 2010, while their two meetings in the 2011-12 Championship season ended in draws.
Redknapp was back at Portsmouth later that year, helping them avoid relegation in the 2005-06 season, before going on to lift the FA Cup in 2008, shortly before moving on to Tottenham Hotspur.
