Former Rangers boss Alex McLeish has admitted that he has not applied for the vacant manager's position at Ibrox but stresses that the club have 'got his number'.

The 58-year-old previously managed the Blues between 2001 and 2006, leading them to two Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups.

Gers are currently searching for somebody to take the reins of the first team after Pedro Caixinha was sacked on Thursday.

McLeish, whose last job in management was a 65-day tenure at Egyptian club Zamalek in 2016, told BBC Sport: "They know where I am.

"It's a huge club and they're not in a good situation and haven't been for a few years now.

"But they're back in the Premiership which first and foremost they have to start winning. They are a unique team along with Celtic."

Rangers are currently fourth in the Scottish Premiership table, eight points behind leaders Celtic.
