Why Manchester United won't "park the bus" at Chelsea

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has a reputation for "parking the bus" when away at Premier League rivals, but the Portuguese cannot afford to do that at Chelsea.

When Manchester United recorded a goalless draw at Liverpool in October, Jose Mourinho was criticised - rather than applauded - for using negative tactics in order to achieve a point at Anfield. It was a similar story at Manchester City in April, while United suffered defeats at both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur during the closing stages of last season. All in all, United have been poor on the road against the top teams with Mourinho in charge, but the Portuguese cannot afford to play for a draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the home of his former club.

A William Hill odds boost will be available for you to try to capitalise on a low-scoring game in West London, but with Manchester City already five points ahead at the top of the Premier League standings, Mourinho simply has to take chances against the Blues. The 54-year-old's previous strategies and Chelsea's flimsy defence mean that you can cash in when it comes to the goals markets, with betting odds of 5/4 being on offer for more than 2.5 goals and 10/3 for more than 3.5 goals. They are both worth a punt, as is the both teams to score odds of 19/20.

United striker Romelu Lukaku - formerly of Chelsea - has been hitting the headlines for his lack of goals and his supposed lack of impact against the bigger teams, but you cannot ignore the 24-year-old this weekend. The Belgian international is 7/5 to score at any point in the match - those are far more attractive betting odds than you will usually get for United's first-choice frontman - while he can be had at 50/1 to score a hat-trick. Juan Mata is also making a return to Stamford Bridge and the Spanish playmaker is available at 15/4 to score on Sunday.

Mourinho will also opt against playing negative tactics because of his counterpart Antonio Conte's unwillingness to switch from a back three. Regardless of any injury troubles, the Italian has stuck with his tried-and-trusted formation and the gaps down the flanks are only going to be inviting to Mourinho. He was quizzed on an apparent reluctance to select Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford in the same starting lineup but if there was ever a time, it is against Chelsea on Sunday. Both attackers are available at 7/2 to score either the first or last goal at the home of the current champions.

While some will predict a 1-0 win for either side, you cannot ignore Chelsea's own quality in the final third and with United's defence showing weaknesses against Huddersfield Town, there are some scorecasts that can be selected at high betting odds. Alvaro Morata to score first in a 3-2 win for the Blues is set at 150/1, with Pedro and the same scoreline as high as 300/1. Even Rashford scoring in a United defeat can be selected at 14/1, so there is value wherever you look and with Chelsea also in a situation where they cannot afford to earn just a draw, that value comes with predicting goals aplenty.
