Jose Mourinho bemoans Manchester United's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, describing the game as "even" and suggesting that it could have easily gone their way.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has bemoaned his side's 1-0 defeat to Chelsea, describing the game as "even" and suggesting that it could have easily gone their way.

Alvaro Morata struck the winner in the 55th minute of Sunday's Premier League match at Stamford Bridge as he headed home a Cesar Azpilicueta cross.

Despite the Blues having eight shots on target to United's two, Mourinho claims that Antonio Conte's side made the most of "the only period where they were on top of the game" by scoring.

"It was an even match," the Portuguese told BBC Sport. "Both teams could win. The first to score would be in more defensive control and to win the match.

"The first half was really even. In the second half in the only period where they were on top of the game, they scored.

"It frustrates us to concede a goal in this situation. We lost ourselves after the goal emotionally. We found again the balance and desire in the last 15 to 20 minutes. It was all us. We had big chances to equalise but we couldn't."

Second-placed United trail leaders Manchester City, who beat Arsenal 3-1 earlier on Sunday, by eight points.
