A report claims that Billy Davies is keen to succeed Pedro Caixinha as Rangers boss, three-and-a-half years after leaving his last managerial position.

Former Derby County and Nottingham Forest boss Billy Davies has reportedly expressed a desire to replace Pedro Caixinha as Rangers manager.

The Gers parted company with Caixinha on Thursday afternoon following a turbulent week that has seen the club exit the Scottish League Cup and lose further ground on Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers chiefs are already understood to be in the process of recruiting a new manager, with Graeme Murty temporarily tasked with taking caretaker charge for the second time this year.

According to Sky Sports News, Davies has put his name forward for the vacant position as he feels that he is ready to return to management.

The 53-year-old has also had spells in charge of Motherwell and Preston North End, but he has been out of work since leaving Forest for a second time three-and-a-half-years ago

Derek McInnes of Aberdeen is the current frontrunner to become next Rangers boss, while Alex McLeish and St Johnstone's Tommy Wright have also been linked.
