Toby Alderweireld suffers an injury blow in the first half of Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League match against Real Madrid at Wembley.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has suffered an injury blow during Wednesday night's Champions League match against Real Madrid.

The Belgian, who has become an integral part of Mauricio Pochettino's defence, was hauled off just 23 minutes into the contest at Wembley.

The severity of the injury is unknown, but the 28-year-old appeared to pull up with a hamstring problem, which could keep him on the sidelines for a significant time.

Moussa Sissoko, who played a bit-part role last season following his £30m switch from Newcastle United, was brought on as the defender's replacement.

Alderweireld has started all of Spurs' Premier League games this season.
