Newcastle United defender Kevin Mbabu returns to his native Switzerland to join Young Boys on a season-long loan.

Newcastle United have sent defender Kevin Mbabu on loan to Young Boys for the 2016-17 campaign.

The 21-year-old signed a new two-year contract at St James' Park earlier this summer, but will spend the first of those years back in his native Switzerland.

The Switzerland youth international joined the Magpies from Servette in January 2013 but has made just five senior appearances for the club since.

Mbabu did make his Premier League debut for Newcastle last season, though, featuring in their 2-2 draw with Chelsea in September.

The full-back also spent time on loan at Rangers in 2015, although he failed to even make it onto the bench during an unsuccessful stint at Ibrox.
