Laura Robson has qualified for the US Open after coming through her final qualifying match at Flushing Meadows.

The former British number one has dropped down the world rankings after 17 months out with a wrist injury, but the highlight of her comeback came on Friday night as she beat Tatjana Maria in straight sets.

The left-hander won four successive points to edge a first-set tie-break but after a lengthy medical timeout for her opponent, she raced through the second to run out a 7-6 6-1 victor.

Robson will now play Naomi Broady in the first round to guarantee that a British player will reach the last 64 of the women's draw in New York.
