Antony: Man United winger delivers fresh update on Real Betis future after losing Conference League final

Man United winger Antony provides a fresh update on his future after making his final appearance of the season for Real Betis in their Conference League final loss to Chelsea.

Manchester United winger Antony is "happy" at Real Betis but he has admitted that his future remains unclear heading into the summer.

The 25-year-old joined Betis on loan in the January transfer window after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, not starting a single Premier League game in the first half of the 2024-25 campaign.

Antony has since transformed his career trajectory under the guidance of Manuel Pellegrini at Betis where he has established himself as an important first-team player, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 26 appearances during the second half of the season.

The Brazil international was hoping to end his loan spell on a high by winning the Conference League, but Betis threw away a one-goal lead in the second half to lose 4-1 to Chelsea in the final on Wednesday.

Antony's temporary switch to Betis in the winter window was a straight loan from Man United that did not include an option to buy, and it remains to be seen whether he will either return to Old Trafford or move elsewhere this summer.

Betis? Man Utd? Another club? Antony unsure over future

Commenting on his future after the Conference League final, Antony told CBS Sports: "I don't know what will happen in the future, only God knows.

"My work is playing and I'm doing that well. I have a lot of affection for Betis, for everyone but I have a contract with Man United and I don't know what's going to happen, only they know what's happening.

"Now I will go to the national team and then on holiday then we will see what happens in the future.

"I'm very happy here, everyone knows that. I went to sleep and I woke up happy but I have a contract and I don't know what's going to happen."

Would Antony be open to Man Utd return?

Antony was signed by Man United from Ajax under the tutelage of former boss Erik ten Hag, but he struggled to justify the £85m fee that the Red Devils forked out in September 2022.

The winger has scored just 12 goals in 96 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions and his current contract at Old Trafford is due to expire in June 2027.

Whether Antony wishes to reignite his career at Man United remains unknown; he admitted in an emotional interview prior to the Conference League final that he went "days without eating" and considered retirement during his darkest moment at the Premier League club.

Ruben Amorim, who gave the green light for Antony to join Betis on loan midway through the season, recently revealed that Man United 'know what they want to do' during the summer transfer window, but Antony's future remains up in the air.

Meanwhile, the future of fellow loanee Jadon Sancho at Chelsea is uncertain - and the same can be said for Marcus Rashford following a loan at Aston Villa - at a time when Man United are closing in on the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha for £62.5m.
