Manchester United are reportedly preparing to go to work over the signing of Napoli forward Victor Osimhen.
Despite missing out on Champions League qualification, it has quickly become clear that the Red Devils hierarchy are prepared to splash the cash this summer.
If Bryan Mbeumo joins Matheus Cunha in moving to Old Trafford, United would have spent in the region of £110m on two new attackers.
Nevertheless, providing that a buyer can be found for either Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund, a new centre-forward will arrive at the Theatre of Dreams.
Although Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres continues to be linked with United, it appears that more effort could go into trying to agree a deal with Napoli for Osimhen.
Man United 'working' on Osimhen deal
As per Gazzetta dello Sport, Man United are hoping that their relationship with Napoli helps them negotiate a deal that suits all parties.
The two clubs were in dialogue last summer as Scott McTominay moved to Naples, subsequently proving to be instrumental in helping Napoli win the Serie A title.
With one year left on Osimhen's contract, the Italian top-flight champions need to be realistic over a transfer fee, bringing United to the table.
Club officials allegedly want to include Zirkzee in any deal for the Nigeria international with Napoli seemingly open to signing a player who has previously impressed in Serie A at Bologna.
Furthermore, Osimhen's preference is to join a Premier League club. He has already turned down the chance to sign for Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Hilal.
Napoli's current asking price is believed to be €70m (£59.32m), but United are eager to reduce that figure with the inclusion of Zirkzee.
Are Man United now the frontrunners?
Having enjoyed his loan spell at Galatasaray, Osimhen may still give consideration to an extended spell in Turkey should he not have left Napoli by August.
That said, the Premier League appears to be his most likely destination now with United seemingly his priority choice given that Chelsea have not returned to the race for his signature.
While other clubs could still express an interest, it appears that they will need to be proactive to edge ahead of United.
