Arsenal legend Thierry Henry questions Mikel Arteta's decision to take off Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in Thursday's 3-2 loss to Manchester United.

Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has questioned Mikel Arteta's decision to take Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off in Thursday's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United.

The Gabon international endured a frustrating evening at Old Trafford and missed a gilt-edged chance to find the back of the net in the second half.

Aubameyang was taken off for Alexandre Lacazette in the 79th minute of the defeat, but Henry does not understand why the Gunners captain did not complete the full 90.

Speaking to Amazon Prime, the Gunners' all-time leading goalscorer said: "One thing I couldn't understand is, Aubameyang is your captain, he is your goalscorer, you put him as a captain.

"Fifteen minutes to go, you are losing 3-2, and you take him off. 3-2, away from home, and you take your captain, your symbol, off the field, and you know he can score you goals. So something is not right there.

"He has all the right in the world to take him off but if I'm captain, I'll be going on the bench I'm not playing well but that shows 'do they still trust me'."

Aubameyang himself has admitted that he should have done better with his second-half chance, although the 32-year-old was in an offside position anyway.
