Liverpool have reportedly finalised an agreement over a fee for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.
Since it became apparent that the Premier League champions had moved ahead of Newcastle United in the race for the Frenchman, it has seemingly been a matter of time until a transfer moved closer to completion.
As per widespread reports, there has been no issue with Ekitike agreeing personal terms with the Merseyside giants.
That has left the relevant officials at each club to try to negotiate a fee, expected to be somewhere in the region of £70m.
According to The Athletic, a proposal has been accepted where Liverpool may eventually pay considerably more than that figure.
What are Liverpool paying for Ekitike?
The report alleges that Liverpool will spend an initial £69m to get a deal for the 23-year-old over the line.
Furthermore, Liverpool could pay up to £10m in add-ons, those being dependent on the performances of both the club and player.
Ekitike is now in line to make the trip to England to complete a transfer, a medical expected to take place on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Should everything go to plan, Ekitike will link up with the Liverpool squad in Hong Kong later this week.
Where will Ekitike play for Liverpool?
Ekitike is being signed to take on the role of first-choice number nine, aided by his exploits for Frankfurt in 2024-25.
A total of 19 goals and 11 assists came from 45 appearances in the Bundesliga and Europa League, the versatile attacker helping Frankfurt qualify for next season's Champions League.
Liverpool could plausibly remain in the market for another central striker if, as expected, Darwin Nunez moves on before the end of the summer transfer window.
That said, Arne Slot may insist on switching his attention to acquiring a new centre-back over the coming weeks, a consequence of Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez being the Dutchman's only three senior options.
