Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hints at retirement

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard hints that he might retire from football at the end of the MLS season with Los Angeles Galaxy.

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has hinted that he will consider retiring from football when this year's MLS season with Los Angeles Galaxy comes to an end.

The midfielder, who will turn 36 in May, moved to the United States last summer after spending 17 years of his career playing for Liverpool.

In his first piece as a columnist for The Telegraph, Gerrard claimed that he may give up on playing later this year in order to move into coaching.

"Nothing is 100% certain yet, but this season at LA Galaxy could be my last as a professional footballer," wrote Gerrard. "I know I'm in the twilight of my career. I am starting my UEFA A licence shortly and the Football Association are proving to be proactive and hugely encouraging in helping former players onto the coaching ladder.

"I was invited to meet the England Under-19 side earlier in the season and further opportunities are planned in future international breaks. I know players like Rio Ferdinand and Jamie Carragher have received similar invitations. It's something I'm keen to push further."

Gerrard made over 700 appearances for Liverpool, adding two FA Cups, three League Cups and a Champions League winners' medal to his trophy cabinet in the process.
