Ashley Cole's reported switch to Los Angeles Galaxy moves a step closer as Roma confirm that the left-back has been released by mutual consent.

Roma have announced that Ashley Cole has had his contract terminated at the Stadio Olimpico by mutual consent.

The 35-year-old arrived in the Italian capital from Chelsea in 2014 and went on to make 16 appearances in all competitions during the campaign that followed.

However, having not featured at all this season, the left-back has been freed to find himself another club.

"The club would like to thank Cole for his commitment during his stay in Rome and wish him the very best for his future career," read a statement on Roma's official website.

Cole is now expected to be reunited with his former England teammate Steven Gerrard at Los Angeles Galaxy.
