Wednesday's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup: Virgil van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Kylian Mbappe

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Liverpool on Wednesday, October 28.

The summer transfer window has now closed and attention will begin to turn to January for Premier League champions Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp's side brought in Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and Kostas Tsimikas during the summer, making for one of their busier transfer windows in the last couple of years.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Anfield.

Wednesday morning's Liverpool transfer talk news roundup:

Real Madrid want Liverpool's Roberto Firmino?

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino as a possible target during their expected summer overhaul next year.

Los Blancos did not spend a single penny during the recent summer window but are thought to be gearing up for a busy 2021 in terms of transfers, with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Eduardo Camavinga and Erling Braut Haaland among the players thought to be on their wishlist.

Spanish outlet Todofichajes claims that Firmino has now been added to that list, and that Liverpool could consider letting the Brazilian leave.

Firmino has been a key member of Liverpool's rise to European, world and domestic glory under Jurgen Klopp, but scored just nine times in the Premier League last season and only got his first of the current campaign against Sheffield United last time out.

The Reds could look to cash in on the 29-year-old amid speculation that they could also bring in a star name next summer, with Mbappe among those to have been linked with a move to Anfield too.

Firmino joined Liverpool in 2015 and has gone on to score 79 goals and create 62 more in 252 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Liverpool 'may not sign new centre-back in January'

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to remain with their current options in defence for the remainder of the season.

Key man Virgil van Dijk has been ruled out for the long term courtesy of a serious knee injury sustained during the early stages of the Merseyside derby on October 17.

Having sold Dejan Lovren to Zenit St Petersburg and with Joel Matip suffering frequent injury issues, Liverpool may struggle for numbers in the middle of their backline as the season progresses.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, there are no guarantees over Jurgen Klopp entering the transfer market during the January window.

The report suggests that club officials have been left mystified by recent links with Schalke 04's Ozan Kabak, who has been tipped to move to a top European club in the future.

Midfielder Fabinho is currently deputising for Van Dijk alongside Joe Gomez, with Matip and youngster Rhys Williams providing added competition.
