Everton will be looking to avoid ending a 65-year streak when they play host to Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Everton will be bidding to avoid ending a 65-year streak when they face Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Toffees and the Saints head into the encounter at Goodison Park both occupying places in the relegation zone, Everton sitting in 18th spot and Southampton in last place.

In order to move ahead of their hosts in the table, Nathan Jones's side will need to prevail by a four-goal margin in the game on Merseyside.

Nevertheless, they face opponents who are winless in six matches in the top flight and have posted just one victory in their last 12 outings in all competitions.

Everton's only point from their most recent fixtures in the Premier League came away at Manchester City on New Year's Eve, with their form at Goodison Park proving more costly of late.

Frank Lampard has watched his team lose four of their last five home games, including three in a row to Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Brighton & Hove Albion.

That has put Everton in a position where they will be looking to avoid putting together their worst run of home results for 65 years.

Not since 1958 have Everton lost four league fixtures at Goodison Park in succession, succumbing as many as seven consecutive times during that year.

However, history is not in Southampton's favour when it comes to condemning Everton to another setback in front of their own supporters.

Southampton have gone over 25 years since they last defeated Everton on their travels in a league game, a streak spanning 17 fixtures.

Meanwhile, despite Southampton beating Crystal Palace and Man City in cup competitions over the past week, the South Coast outfit have lost their last six Premier League games.

Southampton are bidding to avoid losing seven games in this division in a row for the first time in their history.
