Sports Mole takes an in-depth look at how Chelsea could line up for Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round clash with Manchester City.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter should not shy away from making several changes for Wednesday's EFL Cup third-round tie with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Blues are still without the services of Wesley Fofana, Reece James, N'Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell and Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Carney Chukwuemeka is also dealing with a hamstring problem and Jorginho is a doubt with a foot issue.

Given Kepa's foot injury, Potter may decide to keep faith with Edouard Mendy in goal if he deems a call-up for third-choice Marcus Bettinelli too risky against the Premier League champions.

Kalidou Koulibaly is in line to replace Thiago Silva at the back, but a lack of options could otherwise see Trevoh Chalobah, Marc Cucurella and Cesar Azpilicueta all hold their places.

Mateo Kovacic was only considered for a spot on the bench in the defeat to Arsenal as he manages his knee injury, but the Croatian could now be part of a rotated midfield with Denis Zakaria and Conor Gallagher, with 18-year-old Lewis Hall also vying for minutes.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang endured a miserable afternoon against his old club at the weekend - being taken off straight after Gabriel Magalhaes's 63rd-minute winner - and he will likely cede his place in attack to Armando Broja.

The out-of-favour duo of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic can also feel confident about their chances of starting this one, with Potter sure to prioritize ending his side's four-game Premier League winless run in the weekend's clash with Newcastle United.

Chelsea possible starting lineup: Mendy; Azpilicueta, Chalobah, Koulibaly, Cucurella; Gallagher, Zakaria, Kovacic; Ziyech, Broja, Pulisic
