Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen backs his side to reach the last-16 stage of the Champions League.

Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen is confident that his team will book their spot in the last-16 stage of the Champions League with a win over Lille.

Wednesday's 2-2 draw with Valencia means that Frank Lampard's side must beat Lille at Stamford Bridge next month to guarantee their spot in the knockout round of the competition.

Christensen, who played the full 90 minutes at the Mestalla, has also insisted that Chelsea are "a team that belongs in the Champions League".

"We wanted to have a little bit more control at the end," Christensen told the Evening Standard. "But we hung in there and got a good result in a difficult place. Now it is up to ourselves at home to go through. I think we can be happy with that situation even though we wanted to finish it off here.

"Qualification would be massive for us. We look at ourselves as a team that belongs in the Champions League. That was the message before the game and was why we wanted to finish it off.

"We don't want to wait but we had in our minds if it was tight at the end, we didn't want to do anything stupid because we fancy ourselves at home. We will just look at ourselves."

The Blues are currently second in Group H with eight points, level with third-placed Valencia, who will complete their campaign away to section leaders Ajax.
