Cardiff City extend their lead at the top of the Championship table thanks to a 2-1 win over Blackpool.

Welsh outfit Cardiff City won by the odd goal in three during their trip to Blackpool's Bloomfield Road this evening.

There were very few chances during the opening 45 minutes on the Lancashire coast.

Blackpool's best fell to Thomas Ince in the 39th minute, but having rounded David Marshall in the home goal, he was unable to regain control of the ball and it ran harmlessly out of play.

Up the other end, with what proved to be the last attack of the half, Cardiff striker Tommy Smith saw his rising shot tipped over the bar by home Matt Gilks.

The deadlock was eventually broken by the away side eight minutes after the restart when Korean midfielder Kim Bo-Kyung turned in a pass from Aron Gunnarsson from close range.

Blackpool were only behind for seven minutes though thanks to veteran attacker Gary Taylor-Fletcher, who headed a cross from Tiago Gomes into the Cardiff net.

Just three minutes though, league leaders Cardiff were back in front. Tommy Smith collected possession on the edge of the Blackpool box and the former Watford striker sent the ball into the top right-hand corner of the goal.

Ince tried his luck from distance on a couple of occasions as Blackpool looked for a second equaliser, but Marshall was able to hold both efforts.

Despite coming under some pressure in stoppage time, the visitors held out and as a result are now 10 points clear at the top of the Championship.
