Tony Xia admits that 'some players are not worth being given a chance' at Aston Villa after seeing his side exit the EFL Cup in embarrassing style on Wednesday night.

Aston Villa owner Tony Xia has hinted that he is ready to make further changes to the club's playing squad following back-to-back defeats to kick off the new season.

The Villans followed up Sunday's late loss to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship with a surprise 3-1 reverse at Luton Town on Wednesday night.

Chinese billionaire Xia, who has seen his side go six months without a win in any competition, admits that certain players 'are not worth being given a chance' at Villa Park.

"It is much more challenging to be an owner & fan than to be an owner or a fan! A big talk needed. UTV!" Xia said on Twitter. "Even [though] we agreed to take the LC (EFL Cup) match as checking game, some players are not worth being given chance."

Villa have spent £24m on new recruits since their relegation from the Premier League last season, bringing in Ross McCormack, Aaron Tshibola, Pierluigi Gollini and Tommy Elphick.
