Arsenal have reportedly made a formal offer to Sporting Lisbon for Viktor Gyokeres.
The 27-year-old had an outstanding 2024-25 campaign for Sporting, scoring 54 goals and registering 13 assists in 52 appearances in all competitions, and there is currently a host of speculation surrounding his future.
Manchester United continue to be heavily linked with the Sweden international, but Arsenal are also firmly in the picture.
According to Maisfutebol, Arsenal have approached Sporting with an offer of £51m plus bonuses, but that is not expected to be enough to convince the Portuguese champions to sell.
CNN Portugal have also reported that the striker's agent met with Arsenal on Wednesday to discuss a summer deal, with Gyokeres allegedly indicating that he wants to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.
It is also alleged that Gyokeres made it clear 'from the very beginning' that he would choose to join Arsenal over Man United despite the presence of his former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.
Arsenal 'make formal offer' for Gyokeres
Sporting president Frederico Varandas said earlier this week that Gyokeres will not be allowed to leave the club for €70m (£59m) during this summer's transfer window.
Varandas also denied that a gentleman's agreement exists which would allow Gyokeres to depart the Lisbon team for a fee in the region of €70m (£59m) amid the recent reports.
"I can guarantee that Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m (£51m) plus €10m (£8.5m) because I never promised that," said Varandas. "To this day, Sporting has not received an offer for Gyokeres - neither today nor last summer.
"What was agreed in that meeting? That Sporting would not demand the release clause [this summer]. For one reason, it was because we know no player leaves Portugal at 27 for €100m (£85m) or €90m (£76m).
"In that same meeting the agent wanted to anchor the exit to a value. I said this sentence: 'It's not worth us setting a value because I don't know what will happen in a year's time. I don't know if it will be €40m (£34m), €60m (£51m) or €80m (£68m). What I can guarantee is that I will not demand €100m (£85m)."
Gyokeres 'willing to go on strike' at Sporting
Gyokeres is believed to be incredibly unhappy with Sporting's stance, and it has been suggested that he could go on strike at the club this summer in order to force a transfer.
The release clause in the striker's contract is £85m, and his deal is due to run until June 2028, placing Sporting in a strong position when it comes to any potential negotiations.
Arsenal are also being heavily linked with a move for RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, while Man United have allegedly made contact with Eintracht Frankfurt to discuss a deal for Hugo Ekitike.
As a result, Gyokeres could quite quickly run out of serious options this summer, with Sporting potentially denying the striker his dream move to the Premier League.
