Mikel Arteta insists that Arsenal will not feel sorry for themselves following Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has insisted that his side cannot feel sorry for themselves following Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The Blues produced a totally dominant performance in front of the Emirates crowd and stormed to a convincing win thanks to first-half goals from Romelu Lukaku and Reece James.

Arsenal struggled to deal with the physicality of Romelu Lukaku and clear-cut opportunities up top were few and far between, but Arteta was still able to praise his side's fighting spirit on the day.

Speaking to Sky Sports News after the game, Arteta said: "Feeling sorry for yourself does not help. You have to face the challenge, face the criticism. It will come, we are Arsenal Football Club, you have to win every game.

"We need to keep the togetherness. The spirit the team showed in the second half even when losing 2-0 and knowing that it is really difficult to beat a team like them, but we did not give up."

Arsenal - with zero points from their opening two league matches - now prepare for another daunting battle with champions Manchester City on August 28 after their EFL Cup tie with West Bromwich Albion in midweek.
