Preview: Wycombe Wanderers vs. Morecambe - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's League One clash between Wycombe Wanderers and Morecambe, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Wycombe Wanderers will be looking to get back to winning ways as they host Morecambe at Adams Park on Saturday.

Derek Adams's side sit bottom of the League One table after their defeat in midweek to Cheltenham Town and MK Dons picking up a win to move above them.

A run of three league victories in a row for Wycombe was ended by Cambridge United on Tuesday night, with the game ending 3-2 to the visitors.

A three-at-the-back defence which has been solid in recent fixtures was missing Christian Forino-Joseph for that match, which may be a contributing factor as to why they conceded three times.

There were some positives to take away from this game for Gareth Ainsworth's side with Lewis Wing scoring his first goal of the season and Sam Vokes scoring his second goal in three games, as he tries to find his form from last season when he netted 16 goals in the league.

Wycombe fans will be hoping that Anis Mehmeti can find his scoring form from early on in the season, as he has only scored one in the last six games.

A lack of goals has been a problem for Wycombe, with Mehmeti being the top scorer from midfield with six goals.

A win in this fixture against Morecambe could see The Chairboys climb as high as seventh in the table, depending on other results. The table is very tight at the moment and their 13th-placed position could greatly improve if they go on another winning run.

Morecambe sit bottom of the League One table after their fourth loss in their last six league games, which was a 1-0 defeat to fellow strugglers Cheltenham Town, who moved six points clear of Derek Adams's side after picking up the three points.

Despite victory in their previous game against a good Barnsley side, Morecambe could not continue that momentum into their fixture against Cheltenham as scoring goals continues to be a major issue, with their only chance of winning being scoring one goal and then keeping a clean sheet.

They have only scored more than once in two league games so far this season, and it is no surprise that Kieran Phillips scored in both of those fixtures. If Morecambe are going to find their way off the bottom of the table, he will need to be the catalyst for attacking improvement.

Defensively, The Shrimps have tightened up in the last few games, keeping a clean sheet against Barnsley and only conceding once against both Cheltenham and Burton Albion. If they can keep that relative stability up whilst also improving in front of goal, they could slowly start to move up the table.

If they can find a way to beat Wycombe, they could move off the bottom depending on other results and be just one point from escaping the relegation zone, as the table is still so tight.

Team News

Wycombe will be hoping to have Christian Forino-Joseph back available for this fixture after he missed the midweek game against Cambridge United, but if he is still unable to feature Jack Grimmer should keep his place in the lineup.

The change to the three-at-the-back system has worked for Gareth Ainsworth's side in the last three fixtures, with their only loss coming when their back line was not at full strength, so they will be hoping to continue that success into this fixture.

The rest of the side should remain unchanged as it has for the last two fixtures, with decent performances in both games, just not getting the right result against Cambridge United when defensive errors cost them.

Morecambe will be without defender Farrend Rawson for this game after he picked up his fifth yellow card in their last fixture against Cheltenham. This may prompt a change in system to a four-at-the-back, possibly a 4-5-1, which they have played once this season against Bristol Rovers when one of their other defenders Ryan Delaney was out.

This change in system could also see Donald Love come back into the side after being out of the starting lineup for the last two fixtures.

Ousmane Fane will also miss this game as he picked up his fifth yellow card in the fixture against Cheltenham, with Dylan Connolly an option to come in to replace him.

Wycombe Wanderers possible starting lineup:
Stryjek; Jacobson, Mawson, Grimmer; Obita, Wing, Freeman, McCarthy, Mehmeti, McCleary; Vokes

Morecambe possible starting lineup:
Ripley; Gibson, Delaney, Bedeau, Love; Watts, Weir, Connolly, McLoughlin, Shaw; Phillips

We say: Wycombe Wanderers 2-0 Morecambe

Despite their loss against Cambridge United, Wycombe have shown some good form in recent games and against a struggling Morecambe side, we would expect them to secure the three points.
