Stevenage announce sacking of manager Darren Sarll

Stevenage announce that manager Darren Sarll has been sacked with the club 16th in the League Two table.

Stevenage have announced the sacking of manager Darren Sarll with the club 16th in League Two.

The Hertfordshire outfit threw away a two-goal lead for the second time in two weeks as they played out a 2-2 draw at Port Vale on Saturday.

The result proved the last straw for the board, and the club confirmed on Sunday on their website that the 35-year-old had been dismissed.

"Darren has given his all for us but our poor league form and points-per-game ratio of less than one since October is not something we can allow to continue," chairman Phil Wallace wrote. "We haven't seen the progress expected since we strengthened the squad in January so it is time to move on.

"However, we owe Darren a lot. He stepped into the managerial role with no previous experience and has worked tirelessly to turn young academy players like Ben Wilmot, Mark McKee, Ben Kennedy and Dale Gorman into talented professionals, as well as managing our senior players.

"But eventually results will dictate the future and it is time for a change in management and a change in our approach to games. Darren will step down from the position immediately, as will managerial adviser Glenn Roeder and the club will begin the process of recruiting a new manager tomorrow (Monday)."

Sarll took over at the Lamex Stadium in a caretaker capacity in February 2016 after Teddy Sheringham was dismissed.
