Kyle Walker admits that he is happy that Kieran Trippier has been given more playing time at Tottenham Hotspur since his exit to Manchester City.

Kyle Walker has acknowledged that Kieran Trippier's regular game-time this season can only benefit both Tottenham Hotspur and England.

Last summer, Walker left Spurs to link up with Manchester City to conclude a period where the 27-year-old had largely remained ahead of Trippier at right-back.

However, Trippier has gone on to make 32 appearances for the North Londoners this season, and Walker says that he has been pleased to see his former teammate get more opportunities.

Walker told BBC Radio 5 live: "I thought about what I was wanting to do with my career. Tripps was a great competitor at Spurs for me, but I wanted to give myself something new.

"Going to City was the right step, working with the manager, him passing on some of the experience he's gained from working with players. It's good for Tripps to get regular football, and it's good for me and, hopefully, England too."

As it stands, both Walker and Trippier are likely to be selected in England's squad for the World Cup.
