How Tottenham Hotspur could line up against Marine AFC

Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham Hotspur could line up for their FA Cup third-round tie with Marine AFC on Sunday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur will look to avoid being on the wrong end of another FA Cup giant killing when they travel to Merseyside to take on eighth-tier Marine AFC in Sunday's third-round clash.

Jose Mourinho's men have already booked their spot in one domestic final with a 2-0 victory over Brentford in the EFL Cup semi-finals, with Moussa Sissoko and Son Heung-min grabbing the goals in that one.

The Lilywhites have lifted the FA Cup eight times down the years, and while they have not failed to advance past the third round since the 2013-14 season, their 2019-20 journey ended in the fifth-round stage at the hands of Norwich City.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Tottenham could line up against Marine, who are the lowest-ranked team left in the tournament.

While a trip to non-league Marine represents the perfect opportunity for Spurs to start a number of up-and-coming players, Mourinho has promised to respect their opponents by fielding a strong team at the Marine Travel Arena.

The visitors are already without the injured Giovani Lo Celso, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains a doubt after being the victim of a nasty tackle from Brentford's Josh Dasilva, bur Mourinho has expressed optimism over his availability for this one.

However, should Hojbjerg and goalscorer Sissoko both drop to the bench, Harry Winks will look to grasp this opportunity with both hands, and 19-year-old Harvey White - an unused substitute against Brentford - could also be trusted from the first whistle in what would be his first ever start for the club.

Right-back Matt Doherty returns from a one-match suspension for the journey to Marine and could displace Serge Aurier in defence, while Japhet Tanganga and Joe Rodon should start in front of the returning Joe Hart.

White's fellow youngster Jack Clarke will also be hopeful of getting some more first-team minutes under his belt, but the experienced Lucas Moura may be preferred to the 20-year-old and the doubtful Gareth Bale, while Steven Bergwijn should occupy the opposite flank in place of Son.

Question marks are already hanging over the head of Dele Alli with regards to his future, and if the 24-year-old was not to start this game, speculation surrounding his next career move would certainly intensify. However, the England international should line up from the first whistle here, but Mourinho has a big call to make up top.

Carlos Vinicius is vying for more first-team opportunities, but it is not every day that a team comprised of part-timers get the chance to share the same pitch as England's captain, so Harry Kane could lead the line once again on Sunday.
