Southampton striker Shane Long says that he is disappointed to see Ronald Koeman leave the club, but admits that he is grateful for the opportunity to play under the Dutchman.

Southampton striker Shane Long has admitted that he has mixed feelings over Ronald Koeman's decision to leave the Saints in order to join Everton.

During the closing weeks of the season, Long featured regularly for Southampton and helped them qualify for the Europa League, but the Republic of Ireland international has wished his former manager well after penning a three-year contract at Goodison Park.

The 29-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It's obviously disappointing to see him leave, especially after the last six months where he has stuck by me and played me every week.

"I really got on with him and learned a lot from him but obviously he has had an opportunity to progress his career and I wish him all the best."

Since being signed by Koeman in August 2014, Long has scored 20 times in all competitions for Southampton.
