Preview: Salford City vs. Blackpool - prediction, team news, form guide

Sports Mole previews Tuesday's pre-season clash between Salford City and Blackpool, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

After consecutive defeats Blackpool will be hoping to get their pre-season back on track when they make the journey to play League Two side Salford City on Tuesday.

The hosts have also struggled for form as they prepare for the next campaign, with the squad looking for much-needed momentum.

Salford City's aim to be promoted out of League Two was once again put on hold last season as they ended up finishing just outside of the playoff places.

After a change in the management team, the focus is once again on taking the club higher than it has ever been, with Neil Woods currently the man in charge of making that happen.

Pre-season is providing him the chance to work with the squad and see what he has at his disposal for the new campaign, and he will be hoping to see improved results before the new season starts.

Even though Salford defeated Rylands 7-2 in their first match of the summer, that has been followed up by a defeat against Chorley and a draw in their most recent outing.

The Ammies faced Rotherham United last week, with the game finishing up 1-1, which is something that the squad will now be pushing to improve upon.

Blackpool kickstarted their pre-season campaign in good fashion with a 2-0 victory against Southport, but since then it has been back-to-back defeats for them.

The Seasiders were beaten by Leeds United, and that was followed by a loss at the weekend against Scottish side Rangers, with Beryly Lubala's goal not being enough as the game ended 2-1.

Despite the loss against the Gers, Blackpool did put in a valiant effort and showcased their qualities, especially against opposition from a higher division.

Now Blackpool will be coming up against a team two leagues below them, and the pressure and expectations from the fans will certainly be different this time around.

The Seasiders finished in the bottom half last season, and the club will be wanting to kick on to the next level now, which is why pre-season has plenty of importance.

Team News

Wood is still searching for what his main starting XI will be for the new campaign, and so far there has been plenty of rotation within the games that they have played.

Plenty of first team players have not been used as much because of that, but as the season begins to edge ever closer, there is a chance he will start trying to narrow in on what Salford's lineup might look like.

Michael Appleton has a very similar team to use that he did last season due to the lack of transfer activity that Blackpool have been going through this summer.

The club did lose Ethan Robson to MK Dons, which weakened their squad slightly as he has not been replaced by the Seasiders, with this game likely to see plenty of rotation for the squad.

We say: Salford City 1-1 Blackpool

Neither team will be happy with the results that they have been picking up as of late in pre-season, even though the focus is on fitness and implementing new tactics.

While winning the matches is not always the focal point for the managers, it is something that they want to see, but the mixed form these teams have been dealing with could lead to a draw taking place in midweek.
