Rangers manager Mark Warburton outlines his intent to sign "one or two new players", with a defender the top priority.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has outlined his intention to bring in "one or two" new players before the Scottish Premiership season gets underway on Saturday.

The former Brentford boss has previously admitted that he is looking for a defender and a striker in the transfer market but has dismissed suggestions that former Arsenal and Manchester United forward Robin van Persie is en route to Glasgow.

The Gers went down 3-1 to Premier League Burnley at Ibrox yesterday in a result that Warburton said highlights the need for reinforcements.

"We need one or two more; we've said that for a number of weeks but you've got to get the right players in," he told Sky Sports News.

"There are Burnley players rated £25m and we can't pay that kind of money. It's a smaller talent pool but we know what we want and if we can get it, we'll make the move.

"I hope to get something done before next Saturday. We are working on it."

Rangers will welcome Hamilton Academical on Saturday for their first match in the Scottish top flight in more than four years.
