Rangers manager Mark Warburton admits that it has taken longer than expected to sign Joe Dodoo, but is "excited" at the prospect of working with the striker.

Rangers manager Mark Warburton has said that he is "excited" by the prospect of signing Leicester City striker Joe Dodoo.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the King Power Stadium, but Rangers must agree a compensation fee with the Foxes due to the fact that the Premier League champions offered him a new contract.

Warburton admitted that he was hopeful of completing the deal in time for Tuesday's Betfred Cup clash against Annan Athletic, but is confident that confirmation is not far away.

"I'm hoping the paperwork is being finalised. The two clubs are talking. It's above my pay grade so I will let the clever people get on with that and I'll do my stuff out there," he told reporters.

"I think it will be too late for tomorrow night but fingers crossed we can get that one to completion.

"He has trained with us and he's a top young lad and a top young talent as well. I'll be excited to get him on board."

Dodoo trained with the newly-promoted Scottish Premiership outfit last week.
