Scottish Challenge Cup roundup: St Mirren ease through, fire four past Dunfermline

St Mirren fire four goals past Dunfermline Athletic to advance through to the Scottish Challenge Cup semi-finals, while Peterhead and Queen's Park also go through.

St Mirren, Peterhead and Queen's Park have all advanced to the semi finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup with quarter-final wins over Dunfermline Athletic, Stenhousemuir and Elgin City respectively.

Scottish Championship outfit St Mirren fired in three goals in the opening 45 minutes of their tie against League One side Dunfermline, adding a fourth just before full time.

The Saints went in front through Calum Gallagher with 10 minutes gone, while Stephen Mallan and Scott Agnew extended the lead for Ian Murray's side.

Mallan recorded a brace by firing past Pars keeper Sean Murdoch two minutes from time, giving the Saints a 4-0 victory.

Peterhead, similarly to St Mirren, struck three times in the first half against fellow League One side Stenhousemuir to record a comfortable victory.

Jamie Redman opened the scoring for Peterhead after 17 minutes, before both Rory McAllister and Steven Noble struck in the final ten minutes of the opening period.

In an all-Scottish League Two affair, Queen's Park scored two first-half goals against Elgin City through John Carter and Chris Duggan.

Elgin pulled one goal back early in the second period as Darryl McHardy breached the Queen's Park defence, but they were unable to find a leveller as they dropped out of the Cup at the quarter-final stage.

Rangers play current holders Livingston in the competition's last quarter final on October 20.
