Norwich City players are facing 'hefty' pay cuts at the club following their relegation from the Premier League, according to a report.

Norwich City players have the possibility of facing 'hefty' pay cuts at the club following their relegation from the Premier League, according to a report.

The Canaries lost 2-0 at Aston Villa on Saturday, and with Burnley coming from behind to beat Watford 2-1, their immediate return to the Championship was confirmed.

The drop down to the second tier was a record-extending sixth relegation from the Premier League, as the club continues to alternate divisions in recent years.

As a result of the latest disappointing season in the top flight, The Telegraph are reporting that the squad are facing pay cuts of around 40 to 60% due to clauses inserted into their contracts.

An alternative for many players will be potential departures from Carrow Road, as manager Dean Smith looks to reshape his squad ahead of yet another promotion push from the Championship in the 2022-23 campaign.

The report does continue with how the former Villa boss is expected to stay at the relegated side, with Smith being appointed back in November with the view to him being the ideal candidate to get Norwich promoted were he unable to keep them in the division this season.
