Nice confirm that Italy striker Mario Balotelli has signed a contract extension at the Ligue 1 club.

Nice have confirmed that striker Mario Balotelli has signed a contract extension at the club.

The 26-year-old joined the French Riviera outfit last summer on a one-year deal following fruitless spells with Liverpool and on loan at former club AC Milan.

The move saw Balotelli return to form as he scored 17 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions last season, helping Nice finish third in Ligue 1 and win a Champions League spot.

Nice have not disclosed the contract length, though it is speculated to be for another season, and the club noted that the Italy international made "considerable financial sacrifices and chose the sporting aspect with his heart".

Balotelli had been linked with Borussia Dortmund, Las Palmas, Antalyaspor, and Zenit St Petersburg in recent weeks.
