Out of Newcastle United's five January signings, which have been able to make the biggest impact so far?

Newcastle United were active within the January transfer window, bringing in five players to help aid their fight against relegation, and the impact that they have had is clear to be seen.

Eddie Howe's team were able to move from the relegation zone to 14th in the Premier League table, being 10 points clear of the bottom three, showcasing the impressive transformation.

The Magpies are undefeated throughout their previous nine matches within the division, and the new signings have all played a part in helping the squad within that, but who has made the biggest impact so far?

Bruno Guimaraes

Bruno Guimaraes signed for Newcastle United from Lyon for four and a half years, but the central midfielder has only started one game since joining the club, which took place during the recent fixture against Southampton.

However, the Brazilian international showcased his qualities within that match, scoring his first goal to help them win the game 2-1, instantly making his presence known.

Guimaraes has featured six times overall since signing, and his ability on the ball and range of passing have been showcased, but because he has not broken into the team as instantly as the other new players, his impact has been slightly smaller, so far.

Matt Targett

Matt Targett only joined Newcastle on loan from Aston Villa, but he has instantly worked his way into the team, so much so that he has already been linked with a permanent move in the summer transfer market.

The 26-year-old has played fives times in the Premier League, and he has helped to steady the ship defensively, with the Magpies looking like a much more assured team at the back as of late.

However, he has also pushed up to add a great attacking option, with his work up and down the wing proving vital to the way Howe wants to set up his team, with plenty of crosses coming in.

Kieran Trippier

Another full-back that the Magpies signed was Kieran Trippier, with the England international making his move from Atletico Madrid, returning to the Premier League, and immediately making an impact for the team.

It was clear that he provided a lot of leadership qualities, vocally instructing the team in all of his performances, while showcasing his obvious qualities from a defensive standpoint.

However, Trippier also brings fantastic offensive ability, not just from his fantastic deliveries, but he has already scored twice for the club, but his impact was stopped due to injury.

It is clear that he is going to be a brilliant signing for the club when he returns to full fitness though, and his ability to add another dynamic to the attack will be helpful moving forwards.

Chris Wood

There was some question marks over Newcastle's decision to bring Chris Wood from Burnley in January, but it has immediately been clear what he brings to the team, and that is a focal point.

The Magpies now have someone to target specifically, which allows the rest of the squad to focus on their own roles, rather than looking to fill in upfront, with Wood bringing his experience and leadership to their attack.

He has helped others such as Allan Saint-Maximin to get into the game more, while providing an obvious aerial threat, and even though Wood has only scored once in his eight appearances, the way he has helped the structure has been vital to Newcastle's success.

Dan Burn

Out of all the signings Howe made in January, Dan Burn has proven to be the most impactful so far, with the defensive improvements for the Magpies being crucial to how they have climbed up the table.

Newcastle have kept three clean sheets since he joined the club, and they have not conceded more than a single goal in any of the other matches, which is something that they needed to work on.

His commanding presence in the air has been vital, while the 29-year-old has developed a great partnership with Fabian Schar, which is something that will only continue to grow as they get more game time together.
