Netherlands will be looking to extend a 24-year streak when they face USA in the last 16 of the World Cup on Saturday.

Netherlands will be hoping to extend a 24-year streak when they meet USA in the World Cup last 16 on Saturday.

After finishing as runners-up in 2010 and reaching the semi-finals in 2014, Oranje are bidding to finally get their hands on the Jules Rimet trophy on December 18.

Louis van Gaal's side are currently unbeaten in this year's tournament, collecting seven points from matches against Senegal, Ecuador and Qatar in Group A.

Netherlands will now go up against USA, opponents who they have defeated in four of their five fixtures between 1998 and 2015, all of which were international friendlies.

The three-time runners-up lost 4-3 when they last met the Stars and Stripes, but they will be confident of coming out on top at the Khalifa International Stadium.

Over 90 minutes, Netherlands are currently on a 19-match unbeaten streak against non-European nations, a run which has lasted since 1994.

During that period, a total of 13 wins and six draws have been record, although two of the stalemates have preceded losing on penalties in knockout ties.

Netherlands are also looking to protect their record of never having suffered a defeat in normal or extra time with Louis van Gaal in charge, that particular streak now at 10 matches.

In sharp contrast, USA will be attempting to end a run of 11 matches without a victory against a European nation at the World Cup.

Two of their six draws during that time were against Wales and England earlier in the 2022 tournament, with their last success coming against Portugal in 2002.

USA have lost three of their four ties in the last 16 of the World Cup, all of which came at the hands of European opponents in Italy, Germany and Belgium.
