While Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have arrived at Old Trafford, Manchester United have drawn up a clear list of players to offload during the summer transfer window. Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are not in Ruben Amorim’s plans for the 2025-26 season.
The Red Devils believe that selling this "unwanted" quartet is crucial to improve their financial position and make new additions. Manchester United aim to raise up to £122m through these deals.
United begin squad clear-out
As the squad returned for pre-season, the Portuguese manager decided that several players would not be part of his plans. Alongside Antony, Garnacho, Sancho and Malacia, Marcus Rashford was also included in the list of departures.
The England international has joined Barcelona on loan, with the Spanish club holding a £25.3m purchase option at the end of the 2025-26 campaign. Rashford has already completed a medical and is expected to be officially unveiled by Barcelona shortly.
The futures of the remaining players are now under review. Amorim has reportedly excluded the quartet from training with the rest of the squad. Antony, Garnacho, Sancho and Malacia are limited to using the facilities for rehabilitation and medical purposes, and only once first-team activities have concluded.
This firm stance is likely to weaken United’s negotiating power, with potential suitors aware of the club’s urgency to sell.
Antony's value on the rise
Antony joined Manchester United from Ajax in August 2022 in a deal worth up to £85m. However, the Brazilian winger failed to deliver consistent performances at Old Trafford.
After falling down the pecking order under Amorim, he was loaned to Real Betis in January, where he quickly became one of the team's key contributors.
Following a strong stint in La Liga, United believe Antony’s value has increased. According to UOL, the club hope to raise up to £50m from his sale. The 25-year-old has attracted interest from RB Leipzig, Bayer Leverkusen, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Real Betis.
Garnacho’s relationship with Amorim deteriorates
Alejandro Garnacho burst onto the scene in 2022 and quickly earned a place in United’s senior squad. However, tensions with Amorim have reportedly led to his inclusion on the transfer list.
The most notable incident came in the Europa League final, where Garnacho played just 19 minutes off the bench in a defeat to Tottenham. After the match, the 21-year-old and his brother publicly criticised Amorim for not starting him.
Earlier this year, Chelsea and Napoli expressed interest in signing Garnacho, who was then valued at £70m. According to The Telegraph, United are now prepared to accept offers in the region of £40m, with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur among the interested clubs.
Sancho's wages may force cut-price sale
Sancho joined United from Borussia Dortmund in July 2021 for £73m but struggled to live up to expectations. He has since been loaned to Dortmund and Chelsea but failed to establish himself at either club.
With a high wage package, United are unlikely to recover their initial investment. According to The Mirror, the 25-year-old has agreed to halve his salary to facilitate a move to Juventus. The Italian side are set to pay up to £21.6m to secure the winger.
Malacia out of favour after injury setbacks
Tyrell Malacia arrived at United from Feyenoord in 2022 for £13m, but his time at the club has been plagued by injuries. Recommended by former manager Erik ten Hag, the Dutch full-back has not featured prominently under Amorim, who reportedly considers him unsuited to his tactical approach.
The 25-year-old spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan at PSV Eindhoven but failed to impress. According to the Daily Record, United are in talks to sell Malacia to Celtic for £3m.
