Manchester United have no desire to replace Andre Onana with Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Manchester United reportedly have no desire to replace number one goalkeeper Andre Onana amid suggestions that Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak is back on their radar.

Onana arrived at Old Trafford from Inter Milan over the summer, with the 27-year-old penning a five-year contract with the 20-time English champions.

The Cameroonian has found it difficult to show his best form since arriving in Manchester, though, conceding 15 times in nine appearances, including four on his Champions League debut for the club against Bayern Munich.

A recent report claimed that Onana's performances were already under the microscope, with the Red Devils considering making an attempt to sign Oblak, who has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford.

However, according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, there is no truth to suggestions that Oblak could be targeted as a replacement for Onana, with the stopper still having the full confidence of his manager and teammates.

"I wanted to start by clarifying some lies and fake news circulating around the goalkeeper situation at Manchester United," Romano wrote in his column for CaughtOffside.

"It's obviously not been the easiest start for Andre Onana at Old Trafford, but we know it can sometimes take time for a player at a new club, in a new country, so it's important to give him some time.

"There have also been some rumours about Man United and Jan Oblak, with speculation that the Atletico Madrid 'keeper could be a target for the Red Devils, but I can confirm that this is completely fake.

"There is nothing at all between United and Oblak, they invested big money in Onana and they trust him. The United 'keeper for the present and future will be Onana, and with Oblak there are no conversations at all, on the player side or club side. It would make no sense for United to be pursuing this deal at this stage."

Onana kept back-to-back clean sheets against Crystal Palace and Burnley on September 23 and September 26 respectively, but he conceded once against Palace in the league on Saturday.

Just one goal shipped in his last three appearances is a huge improvement, though, as the goals had been going in at an alarming rate earlier this season.

Man United also signed Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce on transfer deadline day, with the Turkey international arriving as the back-up stopper to Onana.

Bayindir had been expected to make his debut against Palace in the EFL Cup, but Onana was somewhat surprisingly chosen between the sticks.

Tom Heaton, who was linked with a move away during the summer market, is also still at Old Trafford, with the Englishman the number three behind Onana and Bayindir.
