Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer will reportedly make the final decision about Cristiano Ronaldo's future at the club in the wake of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer will reportedly make the final decision about Cristiano Ronaldo's future at the club in the wake of his explosive interview with Piers Morgan.

Ronaldo, 37, has launched a scathing attack on the Red Devils and has heavily criticised head coach Erik ten Hag, the Glazer family, several board members and former teammates.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner claims that he feels "betrayed" by Man United and has admitted that he has "no respect" for Ten Hag, while he also believes that the Glazers "don't care about the club".

Speaking to Morgan for TalkTV, Ronaldo said: "The Glazers, they don't care about the club. I mean, professional sport. As you know, Manchester [United] is a marketing club. They will get its money from the marketing, the sports, they don't really care, in my opinion."

Asked if he has ever spoken to the Glazers, Ronaldo added: "Never. No. They give all the power to the president, sporting director.

"The fans, they're always right. I think the fans should know the truth – they should know that the players... we want the best for the club. I want the best for the club. This is why I am coming to Manchester United. This is why I love this club.

"You have some things inside the club which don't help Manchester [United] reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal, for example. It's hard in my opinion. It will be hard for Manchester [United] to be in the top of the game, the next two, three years."

Man United are said to be 'extremely disappointed' by the comments made by Ronaldo in his interview and they issued a statement on Monday which said that they "will consider its response after the full facts have been established".

According to the Association Press, via The Guardian, Joel Glazer will make the final decision on whether to sell Ronaldo in the New Year and the Portuguese forward's agent Jorge Mendes will be required to present potential suitors willing to sign him.

The report adds that United's hierarchy have been impressed with Ten Hag's handling of Ronaldo this season, particularly after the forward refused to come on as a substitute in a Premier League win over Tottenham Hotspur last month.

Ronaldo missed the Red Devils' last two fixtures against Aston Villa and Fulham, with the club citing illness for his absence, but he has since linked up and trained with the Portugal squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

United's No.7 has recently revealed that he was close to joining rivals Manchester City before returning to Old Trafford in the summer of 2021.

Ronaldo has been strongly linked with an exit from the 20-time top-flight champions over the last 18 months, but his £500,000-per-week wages are believed to be putting off potential buyers.

Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain allegedly have no interest in Ronaldo, while the president of his former club Sporting Lisbon has refused to rule out a move for the Madeira-born attacker.

Ronaldo is out of contract in the summer of 2023 and he will be able to negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs from January onwards.
