Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani reportedly tells the Old Trafford hierarchy that he wants to move back to South America this summer.

Edinson Cavani has reportedly informed the powers-that-be at Manchester United that he will be leaving in the summer transfer window.

The Uruguay international has just over two months left to run on his Old Trafford deal and has been strongly linked with Boca Juniors, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his desire to keep the striker on the books for the 2021-22 campaign.

United do have the option to extend Cavani's deal by a further year, but the 34-year-old would have to agree to that proposal before it was triggered, and he reportedly has other plans as he approaches the latter stages of his career.

According to Argentine outlet Doble Amarilla, Cavani informed Red Devils chiefs of his desire to return to South America after their 3-1 win over Burnley, during which he came off the bench to score in added time.

The report adds that Cavani is keen to be closer to his family from June onwards, and there is nothing to suggest that United's involvement in the European Super League played a part in his decision.

The former Paris Saint-Germain striker has netted 10 goals across all competitions this season, but he has started just 11 Premier League games.
