Chelsea are reportedly giving consideration to launching an approach for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea will reportedly consider a move for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa during the summer transfer window.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed a rapid rise over the past 18 months, establishing himself as first choice at his club and playing a key role in their Primeira Liga title success in 2021-22.

Furthermore, Costa helped Porto progress through to the last 16 of the Champions League during the current campaign, topping a group which included Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Club Brugge.

As a result of his greater standing at the club, the Portugal number one was recently rewarded with a new long-term contract in a bid to fend off growing interest in his signature.

However, despite extending his terms through to 2026, it is has been suggested that the stopper's release clause has been set at €75m (£64.5m).

While that fee is regarded as high for a goalkeeper, it appears that the improvement in terms has done little to discourage some of his admirers.

According to Relevo, agent Jorge Mendes has already made contact with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United to determine their level of interest.

Regarding Chelsea, the report suggests that the ongoing situation regarding Edouard Mendy's future at Stamford Bridge is 'no coincidence'.

The Senegal international is said to have doubts over whether to extend his contract at Stamford Bridge, primarily because Kepa Arrizabalaga is now regarded as first choice by Graham Potter.

Although the Champions League winner still has over two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract, Chelsea may look to cash in on the 30-year-old if they can find a buyer at the end of the season.

The report adds that Manchester United continue to monitor the situation while they look to resolve the future of long-term goalkeeper David de Gea.

While United are able to trigger a one-year extension in the Spaniard's contract, both parties will discuss fresh terms over the coming weeks.

De Gea recently made his 500th appearance in all competitions for United, but it has been suggested that he would need to take a pay cut in order to remain at Old Trafford for the next phase of his career.
