How Manchester United could line up against Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up in Thursday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Manchester United will be back at Old Trafford on Boxing Day with Newcastle United the visitors in the Premier League.

The Red Devils suffered a 2-0 loss at Watford on Sunday afternoon and will therefore be determined to return to winning ways on Thursday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side are currently eighth in the Premier League table, seven points off fourth-placed Chelsea on the same number of matches.

That said, the 20-time English champions have only suffered one loss at Old Trafford in the Premier League this season, while they are unbeaten at home to Newcastle in England's top flight since December 2013.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how United could line up when they welcome Steve Bruce's side.

Solskjaer hinted during Sunday's post-match press conference that Pogba, having made his return off the bench at Watford, was likely to go into the XI for the clash with Newcastle.

The Norwegian also talked up the Frenchman's versatility, and it would not be a surprise to see him selected in the number 10 spot against Newcastle with Jesse Lingard, who missed a big chance at Vicarage Road when the score was goalless, dropping out.

Ashley Young could also come in for Luke Shaw at left-back with United facing a trip to Burnley two days after this match, while Mason Greenwood could replace Daniel James down the right.

James has been excellent since arriving from Swansea City, but the Wales international could be rested ahead of the trip to Turf Moor.

There are not expected to be many other alterations, though, with the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford set to continue in the side.

The team's injury list is certainly now easing, although Eric Bailly, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Marcos Rojo will all miss out for the Red Devils once again.
