Bruno Fernandes equals Cristiano Ronaldo record in Manchester United draw

Manchester United's Bruno Fernandes becomes the first Portuguese player to score 10 goals in a Premier League season since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes equalled Cristiano Ronaldo's Premier League goalscoring record with his goal in the Red Devils' 2-2 draw with Leicester City on Boxing Day.

The 26-year-old set up Marcus Rashford for the game's opener at the King Power Stadium, but Harvey Barnes's sweetly-struck effort levelled the scores before half time.

Fernandes restored United's lead in the second half, but Axel Tuanzebe's own goal from Jamie Vardy's effort ensured that the points were shared in that clash between the two Champions League hopefuls.

The playmaker's goal against the Foxes was his 10th of the 2020-21 top-flight campaign, making him the first Portuguese player since Ronaldo to reach double figures in a Premier League season.

Fernandes has netted 10 goals in just 14 league matches this term, and by setting up Rashford's goal, the midfielder has also banked six top-flight assists in the 2020-21 season.

Ronaldo's last season in English football saw him strike 18 times in 33 Premier League matches before his 2009 transfer to Real Madrid.
