Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is "far from quitting" after suggesting that he should be sacked if he is unable to turn around the club's fortunes.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has insisted that he is "far from quitting" after suggesting that he should be sacked next season if he is unable to turn around the club's fortunes.

The Red Devils suffered their 17th Premier League loss of the campaign on Sunday afternoon, going down 2-0 to West Ham United at Old Trafford, and the team are currently down in 16th spot in the Premier League table.

After the loss to the Hammers, Amorim suggested that he should be sacked next term if he is unable to oversee a big enough change.

The Portuguese was asked about his comments during Wednesday's press conference to preview next week's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.

"Since I arrived here, I have always been talking about the standards. I have a clear idea what to do. I understand the problems of the team, so I am far from quitting," Amorim told reporters.

"What I am saying is, we need to perform in the future and this season. If not, they will change us, that is a normal thing. That was my feeling and is still my feeling today.

Amorim insists "more time" is needed to oversee change

"We need more time with the team to arrange a lot of things at Carrington, where we are not thinking by game, by game, by game. We have proven this year that we need to be a better squad if we want to win European games and be really competitive in the Premier League. It is going to be tough.

"We give all the information that we can and we prepare the game in the same way. It is the only way I know how. It is a thing of our players also. They have proven in the past, in these types of games, they are prepared to do that."

Amorim also had a word for the club's fans, who have continued to support the team this season amid their struggles.

"You can see it every Sunday here. They are always supporting the team. I think we have lost nine games at home this season. They are always supporting the manager, so I have nothing to say. The connection with the supporters is really important. It can be a game-changer. We want to build that connection and win titles," said the Portuguese.

Will Yoro, De Ligt, Heaven, Dalot be fit for Europa League final?

Amorim has also revealed that Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven and Diogo Dalot all have chances of being available for the final of the Europa League against Tottenham.

Toby Collyer and Jonny Evans also trained on Wednesday, with Man United receiving some positive news ahead of the contest in Bilbao.

As it stands, Lisandro Martinez and Joshua Zirkzee are the only two players definitely out of the final for the Red Devils, who will head to Chelsea in the Premier League on Friday night.
