Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has expressed his desire to remain at the club beyond the end of this season.

The 31-year-old's future at Anfield has come into question in recent months, with his current contract due to expire in June.

Firmino has spent the last seven-and-a-half years with Liverpool since joining the club from Hoffenheim and has been a key cog in Jurgen Klopp's machine during a successful spell on Merseyside.

The Brazil international has scored 107 goals and provided 78 assists in 348 appearances across all competitions for the Reds and has won a total of seven trophies, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Liverpool have endured a difficult 2022-23 campaign and currently sit ninth in the Premier League table, 10 points behind the top four and 19 behind leaders Arsenal.

There have been suggestions that a rebuild is required at Anfield to help the club get back on track and competing on all fronts, with Firmino one first-team name who the Reds could potentially look to move on.

A return to the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich has been mooted, while Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Nassr – who recently signed Cristiano Ronaldo – have also been credited with an interest in the Brazilian.

However, a recent report claims that Liverpool are prioritising negotiations with Firmino over a new contract, and the forward has since revealed that he 'intends to stay' at the club.

"It's incredible playing high-level football here with great players, stars of the game," Firmino told the official Liverpool magazine. "I'm happy here and I intend to stay here and help Liverpool FC.

"It's a dream for all players to win the Premier League and Champions League. It's history, a huge legacy. When it happened, we felt tremendously privileged, grateful to God for having given this to us."

Klopp, meanwhile, has reiterated his desire to keep hold of Firmino and has insisted that the January arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven has no impact on the Brazilian's future.

"No. No. Not from me, absolutely not. There is no impact, if you mean with an impact that Bobby might [be moved on]," Klopp told reporters earlier this month.

"You have to ask Bobby about that, but from my point of view no. We have talks with Bobby and I can say, from my point of view, I want him, definitely, to stay."

Firmino is yet to play for Liverpool since the World Cup break due to a calf injury and he is not ready to return for Saturday's Premier League encounter at home against Chelsea.
